grobag's Louberry bear designFollowing our recent poll on Not Just Another Baby, 84% of our customers are choosing to put their babies to bed in a baby sleeping bag as apposed to traditional bedding (sheets/blankets). Although there are many brands of baby sleeping bags out in the market, we sell the the UK Mum’s favourite brand: Grobags. We have put all our children in Grobags over the years and really believe they are the best value for money. This blog lists just a few reasons why you should consider using a summer Grobag for this gorgeous weather we are currently having and also provides you with advice on how to chosen the right size and tog for your baby.

Grobag Baby Sleep Bags are the safe alternative to traditional sheets and blankets. There are no covers to kick off or get tangled up in, so little ones stay cosy and safe during the night. Grobag is the UK’s Baby Sleep Bag specialist and have changed the way mums and dads put their babies to bed! With clever little extras like our secure zip-click and chin guard they are constantly improving and evolving the product. Grobag is FSID’s only recommended Baby Sleep Bag specialist – the UK cot death research charity which promotes and raises awareness of safer sleep for babies. Every aspect of your Grobag has been designed and manufactured with safety and quality as a top priority. The free nursery thermometer will give you confidence that you are using your Grobag safely and correctly too. With 3 Mother & Baby Gold awards, voted for by mums, both you and your little one can be rest assured that you have chosen the UK’s favourite Baby Sleep Bag. Remember: a Baby Sleep Bag by any other name is not a Grobag!

Choosing a summer grobag size
Summer Grobags and the heavier 2.5 tog Grobags can be used when your baby weighs more than 8 lbs 8oz (0-6 mths size). It is very important to check that your baby’s head cannot pass through the neck-hole when the Grobag is fastened for use. Please remember that these are recommendations only as all babies are different.

grobag tog chart

Choosing a tog
A tog measurement is a European warmth rating: the higher the tog, the warmer the product. Grobag baby sleep bags are available in three tog ratings , For all year round choose a 2.5 tog, Summer Grobags are 1.0 tog and are ideal for warmer weather and daytime naps and 0.5 tog, ideal for holidays and heatwaves.

grobag what to wear chartWhat to wear
With the current temperature a 1.0 tog Summer Grobag is ideal, but what your baby wears to bed will depend on the tog of Grobag baby sleep bag you choose and the temperature of the baby’s bedroom. (In the same way as you would adjust nightclothes and number of blankets). As a guide, please refer to the table. Please remember, though, that babies are all different and, just as with blankets and sheets, you will soon discover what your baby is most comfortable wearing — placing your fingers on your baby’s chest is the best indicator of whether they are too hot/too cold/just right as babies’ hands often feel cool.

Working with FSID
From day one Grobag has worked very closely with the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID), who is the leading UK charity at the forefront of researching and promoting safe sleep for infants. Try to remember that cot death is rare and that if you follow advice such as putting your baby to bed on their back, you will be reducing their risk of cot death considerably.

Top 10 tips for twins

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Finding out you are pregnant is a shock enough, finding out later on in your pregnancy that you are pregnant with twins can be mind boggling. Speaking from experience (I have twin girls), I have written down the top 10 tips which helped me drag myself through those first few groggy weeks of motherhood.

1. It may sound harsh (and seem unnatural) but wake your babies to get them into a routine of feeding every 3-4 hours (depending on their birth weight). This way you will get into a pattern quicker and be able to grab some much-needed sleep yourself in the first few weeks. When they are strong enough to hold their heads and sit in a bouncy chair (and if you are bottle feeding), position yourself between them on the floor and feed them both at the same time! If breast feeding, attempt – if help is at hand – to tandem feed, i.e. a baby on each breast at the same time. I found a v-pillow invaluable in the short time I tandem fed.

2. If breast feeding, write down which baby had which boob and how long they fed for. If bottle feeding write down how many mls each baby had and when. Do the same with what you find in their nappies, i.e. if they are wet or dirty. It may sound silly but when you are tired you will forget which twin did a poo and which one you fed last!

3. Swaddle your babies. They may look like Egyptian mummies but they really do feel more secure and sleep better as a consequence! When you feel they want to stretch a little more move them into a Grobag. There are many baby sleeping bags on the market but Grobags are the only brand recommended by FSID.

4. Keep a supply of nappies, wipes and nappy sacks in the rooms most used in your house, i.e. the babies’ bedroom and the sitting room. This will save both time and energy (very important if you have had a c-section).
