Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

grobag's Louberry bear designFollowing our recent poll on Not Just Another Baby, 84% of our customers are choosing to put their babies to bed in a baby sleeping bag as apposed to traditional bedding (sheets/blankets). Although there are many brands of baby sleeping bags out in the market, we sell the the UK Mum’s favourite brand: Grobags. We have put all our children in Grobags over the years and really believe they are the best value for money. This blog lists just a few reasons why you should consider using a summer Grobag for this gorgeous weather we are currently having and also provides you with advice on how to chosen the right size and tog for your baby.

Grobag Baby Sleep Bags are the safe alternative to traditional sheets and blankets. There are no covers to kick off or get tangled up in, so little ones stay cosy and safe during the night. Grobag is the UK’s Baby Sleep Bag specialist and have changed the way mums and dads put their babies to bed! With clever little extras like our secure zip-click and chin guard they are constantly improving and evolving the product. Grobag is FSID’s only recommended Baby Sleep Bag specialist – the UK cot death research charity which promotes and raises awareness of safer sleep for babies. Every aspect of your Grobag has been designed and manufactured with safety and quality as a top priority. The free nursery thermometer will give you confidence that you are using your Grobag safely and correctly too. With 3 Mother & Baby Gold awards, voted for by mums, both you and your little one can be rest assured that you have chosen the UK’s favourite Baby Sleep Bag. Remember: a Baby Sleep Bag by any other name is not a Grobag!

Choosing a summer grobag size
Summer Grobags and the heavier 2.5 tog Grobags can be used when your baby weighs more than 8 lbs 8oz (0-6 mths size). It is very important to check that your baby’s head cannot pass through the neck-hole when the Grobag is fastened for use. Please remember that these are recommendations only as all babies are different.

grobag tog chart

Choosing a tog
A tog measurement is a European warmth rating: the higher the tog, the warmer the product. Grobag baby sleep bags are available in three tog ratings , For all year round choose a 2.5 tog, Summer Grobags are 1.0 tog and are ideal for warmer weather and daytime naps and 0.5 tog, ideal for holidays and heatwaves.

grobag what to wear chartWhat to wear
With the current temperature a 1.0 tog Summer Grobag is ideal, but what your baby wears to bed will depend on the tog of Grobag baby sleep bag you choose and the temperature of the baby’s bedroom. (In the same way as you would adjust nightclothes and number of blankets). As a guide, please refer to the table. Please remember, though, that babies are all different and, just as with blankets and sheets, you will soon discover what your baby is most comfortable wearing — placing your fingers on your baby’s chest is the best indicator of whether they are too hot/too cold/just right as babies’ hands often feel cool.

Working with FSID
From day one Grobag has worked very closely with the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID), who is the leading UK charity at the forefront of researching and promoting safe sleep for infants. Try to remember that cot death is rare and that if you follow advice such as putting your baby to bed on their back, you will be reducing their risk of cot death considerably.

Top 10 Tips for new DADS!

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

Just Another Baby are back with another top 10! This time we are focusing on Dads. If anyone has anything to add please post a reply.

1. Mobile phone with list of numbers to contact when baby is born (or to check football scores)

2. Camera – but use wisely and be aware that your other half might not want to smile at certain stages.

3. Book/magazine/portable DVD player. Be cautious not to have a ‘how to give birth’ book and sit quoting what they should be doing because chapter 3 says so.

4. Snacks.. for both of you.

5. Patience.

Top ten tips for those first few days with your baby

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Going home with your new born baby is exciting, exhilarating and a little nerve-racking! You have been waiting for this moment for the past 9 (or is it actually 10!) months and you are eager to begin this new stage in your life. Here are a few tips that we found helped to keep our heads straight in those first few fuzzy days.

1. If time, before you have your baby, prepare a few meals that you can freeze ahead. This will enable you to eat sensibly and without too much thought in the first few days.

2. Once home, sleep when baby sleeps. Despite what anyone says, your baby won’t be in any sort of routine for the first 4-6 weeks – grab sleep when you can, it will keep you sane – sort of!

    Thinking of Using Washable Nappies?

    Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Baby in washable nappyIf you’re considering using washable nappies, it could be worth checking the website of your local county or borough website for free nappy trial kits. Here in Devon, for instance, the Devon Real Nappy Project is happy to send out trial kits to help you decide for yourself (just visit www.recycledevon.org for more info). Cornwall, Bradford, Edinburgh and Lothians and Hackney in London are just some of the areas getting involved – type “[your location] real nappy project” into Google UK and see what you can find.

For nationwide info and general help and advice (from mums who’ve used washable nappies on their own children), go to www.goreal.org.uk. In addition, April 26th – May 2nd is Real Nappy Week, with events taking place across the UK; more info available on the Go Real site (above).
